The world of showbiz was stunned this week as details of Cat Deeley’s marriage to Patrick Kielty emerged. Shunning the well-trodden route of celebrity weddings before them, including the obligatory celeb magazine exclusive; they opted for an intimate ceremony with only close friends and family invited. The couple have worked hard to keep the details of their relationship private and unless you really keep your eye on the latest celebrity gossip, you might not have even been aware that the two were an item.
From Friendship to Romance
Cat, best known for her work as a TV presenter, first met Kielty back in 2002 when working on the BBC’s fame academy. During the show, which ran for two series, the pair became close friends and remained so for the following years. However, friendship appeared to turn into romance shortly after Cat split with True Blood actor Michael McMillan, with rumours emerging in November 2011 that she was dating the Northern Irish comedian. Speculation grew that Patrick had proposed to Cat after she was seen showing off a ring in a swanky London hotel, as the couple swigged champagne. Kielty did his best to dispel the rumours less than a month before the ceremony, whilst presenting This Morning, when X Factor judge Louis Walsh questioned him over the affair. Although the buzz around their alleged engagement persisted; no-one expected them to get hitched quite so soon, having been dating for less than a year.
Secret Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place at St Isidore’s College in Rome, with Priest and Kielty’s long-term friend Fr Donegan marrying the couple. He, along with Cat and Patrick’s friends and family members flew out at short notice for the wedding, as the stars looked to keep the event hush-hush. And they certainly succeeded! At Prime Performers we’d like to congratulate the happy couple and wish them a long and happy life together. We just wish we could get our hands of the photos to see how beautiful Cat looked! Although all the reports we are hearing say that she looked amazing in a white ruffled round-neck gown.
