Andrew Parker

  • Former MI5 Director General & Royal Household Leader
  • Leadership & Resilience Speaker
  • Geopolitics, Strategy & Crisis Speaker

Andrew Parker brings more than 30 years of experience at the highest levels of British national security, government and public service. After a distinguished career at MI5, culminating in seven years as Director General, he went on to serve as Lord Chamberlain, the most senior official in the Royal Household and its non-executive chair.

His career has given him first-hand experience of leading organisations through uncertainty, rapid change and intense public scrutiny. At MI5, where he also served as Counter Terrorism Director and Deputy Director General, Andrew focused on strengthening operational effectiveness, international partnerships and the organisation’s ability to respond to emerging technologies. He worked closely with Prime Ministers, Home Secretaries and the National Security Council, balancing the demands of national security with accountability and public confidence.

As Lord Chamberlain, Andrew faced a very different leadership challenge. He helped modernise an institution with centuries of tradition while overseeing significant organisational change in areas including culture, governance, inclusion and diversity. He also led the Royal Household through some of the most significant events in recent British history, including the funerals of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, the accession of King Charles III and the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Andrew believes that the foundations of effective crisis leadership are built long before a crisis occurs. He explores how organisations can develop resilient, high-performing teams by creating a clear sense of purpose, encouraging openness and accountability, and building cultures based on trust, integrity and respect.

His talks examine the leadership lessons that can be drawn from national security, geopolitics and public life, as well as the impact of technology and an increasingly unpredictable global environment. He also explores the value of genuinely diverse teams, arguing that organisations benefit not from uniformity but from understanding and harnessing different perspectives.

Alongside his public service career, Andrew is a non-executive director at Babcock International and Vertical Aerospace, and sits on the advisory board of data security company Telicent. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute, a Visiting Professor at Northumbria University, and an experienced leadership coach and mentor.
