Andrew Rawnsley

Andrew Rawnsley is a political journalist, author and critically-acclaimed broadcaster. The recipient of many Awards, he is the Observer's Chief Political Commentator and is also presenter of ITV's flagship political interview show The Sunday Edition.

While studying at Cambridge University, Andrew wrote a column for the university's Social Democrats newsletter (1982-83), subsequently stepping up to edit Stop Press, the university's newspaper of the day. He won the Guardian Student Journalist Of The Year Award in 1984, and joined the paper the following year. By 1987, he was the Guardian's principle parliamentary sketch writer. In 1993, Andrew moved to the Observer as Chief Political Commentator and Associate Editor.

Andrew is a regular broadcaster, both on TV and radio. He was co-presenter of Channel 4's A Week in Politics (with the late Vincent Hanna), and continues to write and present political documentaries for the Channel, a number of which have been broadcast as part of the current affairs series Dispatches. His other TV credits include Bye Bye Blues, Blair's Year (1998) and a three-hour series The Rise And Fall Of Tony Blair, which was listed for a BAFTA award. In addition, Andrew has been an anchor on BBC Radio 4's Westminster Hour.

Andrew has won many awards for his journalism, including: British Press Awards Young Journalist Of The Year (1987), What The Papers Say Columnist Of The Year (2000), Channel 4 Political Awards Book Of The Year (2001), Channel 4 Political Awards Journalist Of The Year (2003), House Magazine Awards Commentator Of The Year (2008) and, more recently, Chair's Choice Award at the Editorial Intelligence Comment Awards (2015). He became a Fellow Of The Royal Society Of Arts in 2001.

Andrew's book Servants Of The People: The Inside Story Of New Labour, was published in 2000. His second book, The End Of The Party: The Rise And Fall Of New Labour, was initially serialised in the Observer before being published in book form in 2010.
