Austin Healey
Austin Healey
- Former England & British & Irish Lions
- Rugby Speaker
- Leadership & Motivational Speaker
"Austin is so outspoken (and often outrageous) that he has earned the nickname the Leicester Lip. He gives a lift and often a laugh to any after-dinner event and is never frightened to laugh at himself, and is a wonderfully entertaining speaker".
Austin Healey is one England's most highly regarded rugby players, having won two European Cups while playing full-back for Leicester Tigers, as well as 51 caps for England. He toured with the Lions in 1997 and 2001, and has played for England at scrum half, fly-half, fullback and wing!
Since retiring from playing rugby, Austin has scored several further successes - as a banker for Credit Suisse and also as a popular presenter on television and radio. When ESPN won the broadcast rights to the Aviva Premiership Rugby in the autumn of 2010, they signed up Austin to be their lead-analyst on live matches, as well as presenting the highlights shows. In addition, he became the lead presenter for O2's Inside Line, subsequently moving to the BT Sport channel as a rugby presenter. He is also a regular columnist for The Daily Telegraph on all matters concerning rugby.
In 2008, Austin took part in BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, making it to the quarter-finals with his professional dance partner Erin Boag. The following year, he took on the challenge of turning around the fortunes of several struggling rugby clubs as part of the ITV programme The Big Tackle, hosting the show and using all the experience he had gained from his prolific rugby career.
Austin's autobiography, Lions, Tigers and Roses, was published in 2001.
