- Former Ryder Cup Captain & European Golf Tour Legend
- Scottish Professional Golfer
- After Dinner Speaker & Golf Days
Sturdy and stocky, with a rock-solid winning record to match, Bernard Gallacher is a Scottish professional golfer whose determination and drive made him one of the most outstanding golfers of the 20th Century.
Bernard was the original young wonder of the PGA European tour, winning the PGA Championship just two years after turning professional in 1967. He went on to play in the Ryder Cup eight times and was non-playing captain of the European Team in 1991, 1993 and 1995. All three of those matches were very close; Europe lost the first two but won the third, and Bernard's calm and collected leadership was vital to the European team’s stunning victory.
Bernard also served as the professional player at the prestigious Wentworth Golf Club near London for 25 years, leaving at the end of 1996 to spend more time with his family and to develop other interests, including golf commentating (including covering the Ryder Cup for Sky Sports) and working within the corporate entertainment sector, where he is regarded as a “golf day specialist”. He still finds time to play a round or two, and has toured with the European Seniors.
Bernard has also written a popular column for the Scottish golf magazine "Bunkered". His daughter Kirsty is well known sports journalist and media personality in her own right (see separate entry on our website).
Bernard’s Golf Day talks are both informative and highly entertaining - as one might expect from one of Europe’s most successful players/captains!
