Blu Hydrangea

Blu Hydrangea is a celebrated Northern Irish drag queen and makeup artist, widely recognised for her standout appearance on the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Born Joshua Cargill in Belfast, Blu brought a fresh, artistic flair to the competition, earning praise for her avant-garde makeup and quirky charm. She joined the cast in and quickly became a fan favourite, ultimately placing fifth after being eliminated in the “Thirsty Work” episode following a lip-sync battle against Cheryl Hole.

Since her time on Drag Race, Blu has carved out a dynamic career both on and off screen. She’s one-third of the iconic drag pop group The Frock Destroyers, alongside fellow queens Baga Chipz and Divina De Campo. Their debut single “Break Up (Bye Bye)” became a viral sensation, charting in the UK Top 40 and sparking a campaign for the trio to represent the UK at Eurovision. Their debut album Frock4Life was released in 2020, accompanied by a behind-the-scenes docuseries titled Frockumentary.

Blu’s talents extend beyond music. She’s a seasoned makeup artist known for her bold, transformative looks—often blending fantasy, fashion, and fine art. Her Instagram and social media platforms showcase a kaleidoscope of bespoke creations, from icy editorial glam to playful pop culture tributes. Her artistry has earned her collaborations with major brands and features in campaigns across TV and digital media.

In 2020, Blu took on hosting duties for Strictly Frocked Up, a BBC web series where she and fellow drag queens review and react to episodes of Strictly Come Dancing. The show blends Blu’s sharp wit with her love of performance, offering viewers a camp and cheeky take on one of Britain’s most beloved programmes.

Whether she’s painting faces, performing on stage, or serving sass on screen, Blu Hydrangea continues to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be a modern British drag artist.
