Camilla Cavendish is a leading authority on demographic change, healthcare policy, the future of work and social transformation. An award-winning journalist, broadcaster and former government adviser, she is widely recognised for her insight into the economic and political impact of ageing populations, workforce evolution, AI and healthcare innovation.
Camilla is a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and Contributing Editor at the Financial Times, where she writes a prominent weekly opinion column examining politics, economics, technology and society. She is also the author of Extra Time: 10 Lessons for an Ageing World, an acclaimed exploration of how longer life expectancy is reshaping economies, careers, healthcare systems and global societies.
Previously, Camilla served as Head of the Policy Unit at 10 Downing Street under Prime Minister David Cameron, where she helped shape major domestic policy initiatives, including the introduction of the UK’s landmark sugar tax. Her work in government focused heavily on public health, social reform and long-term policy strategy.
A respected voice in healthcare and social policy, Camilla has served on the board of the Care Quality Commission and has led independent government reviews into health and social care reform. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned to government as a temporary adviser to the Department of Health, contributing expertise on healthcare systems and public policy during a period of national crisis.
Alongside her media and policy work, Camilla advises organisations focused on healthcare investment, longevity and social impact, including In Health Ventures and Frontline. Her research at Harvard explores how demographic shifts will influence global economies, geopolitics, labour markets and intergenerational relationships in the decades ahead.
