Charles Davis is a Director at the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), a leading economics consultancy headquartered in London. Charles leads CEBR’s research programme, delivering macroeconomic analysis for clients and developing new bespoke research projects, reporting to the consultancy’s Chief Executive and Board.
More specifically, Charles directs CEBR's collaboration with YouGov on the YouGov/Cebr Consumer Confidence Index and oversees a wide range of regular studies, including Business Trends on the UK economy and Business Confidence Monitors. Charles’ team advises ATOC - the Association of Train Operating Companies (including all main UK private sector train operating companies) and the UK government's Department for Transport, and well as a host of corporate clients, including Mercedes-Benz, Sainsbury’s, Home Retail Group, Friends Life, Royal Mail, Travis Perkins and Canary Wharf Group.
In addition to ongoing macroeconomic advisory work, Charles has also led many bespoke research projects, including a study on UK Mid-Sized Businesses (for Grant Thornton), analysis of how reward cards impact consumer spending (for American Express), research on the wider economic impact of infrastructure investment (cited in the UK Government’s National Infrastructure Plan) and an influential report on how many UK jobs are supported by demand from European Union member countries (featured in the FT and the national press).
On the global economy, Charles oversees CEBR’s quarterly global economic research programme, including its annual World Economic League Table report, as well as Economic Insight publications on the Middle East, China and South East Asia generally.
Charles's in-depth knowledge of world economies is a key feature of his highly popular conference presentations, and his insight is also regularly sought across a range of media outlets, including newspapers such as the FT, Telegraph, Guardian and New York Times, as well as Bloomberg TV and BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
