A Formula One World Champion in 1996, Damon Hill reached the pinnacle of motor racing success through a combination of superb skill, determination and shear guts. Racing was also in his blood, for his late father, Graham Hill, was himself a double Formula One world champion - and to this day Damon remains the only son of a World Champion to also win the title.
Despite the family's long association with the illustrious sport, Damon was a relatively late starter to motor racing, spending his early years racing bikes before switching to cars in 1983. He subsequently drove for Brabham, Williams, Arrows and Jordan before retiring in 1999, with 122 race starts and 22 victories in a career than spanned 16 years.
Since retiring, Damon has continued to be involved with racing cars and motor sport. With Michael Breen, he founded a Prestige and Super Car private members club called P1 International in 2000 (Breen bought Damon out in October 2006), and he also became involved in BMW and Audi dealerships that bore his name. In April 2006, Damon succeeded Jackie Stewart as President of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC).
In 2009, Damon received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Northampton in recognition of his career in motor sports and his connection with Northampton through Silverstone and the BRDC.
A thoughtful and articulate person, possessed of a quick wit and dry humour, in his speeches Damon reflects on his fascinating career and achievements in motor racing, explaining how the industry has changed over the years and describing the demands that success in the fastest of the fast lanes places on a person keen to be first past the finishing flag.
