Dan Walker is the lead anchor on Channel 5’s re-launched flagship news bulletin, 5 News. Since joining Channel 5, Dan has also presented numerous peak time shows for the channel, including Vanished – Britain’s Hunt for Missing People and the hugely popular Dan & Helen’s Pennine Adventure, which he hosts alongside Helen Skelton.
A journalist and broadcaster with over twenty years’ experience, Dan was at the helm of BBC Breakfast for 6 years. He hosted the BBC’s Football Focus for twelve years and has covered five Olympic Games (Athens, Beijing, London, Rio & Tokyo), five World Cups, and the NFL. Dan’s time at BBC Sport also saw him cover Wimbledon, the Grand National, Royal Ascot, the Derby, and the 6 Nations.
Away from sport, Dan hosted his first game show for BBC1 called Chase the Case. The 20-part series saw Dan test the gameplay, wit, and intelligence of five contestants in this brand-new quiz format.
Dan finally said yes when asked for a third time to join the cast of BBC1’s most popular entertainment show Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, reaching the quarter-finals, much to his surprise and delight.
A standout achievement in Dan’s career was when he was asked by Comic Relief to help raise funds by climbing Kilimanjaro with a number of other famous faces. The resulting documentary for BBC1, Return to Kili, followed the team’s fund-raising journey.
His reputation as a sensitive and thoughtful interviewer lead to him being asked to present A Royal Team Talk: Tackling Mental Healthfor BBC1 with HRH The Duke of Cambridge. Together with five A-list footballers, including Gareth Southgate and Peter Crouch, they gathered together for an extraordinary and honest conversation about men's mental health. The programme was incredibly well received and subsequently went on to be nominated for several awards. Dan has also presented The One Show and Songs of Praise.
As an author, Dan has written a number of books, including Standing on the Shoulders: Incredible Heroes and How They Inspire Us, a sequel to the bestselling Remarkable People. His other books also include Dan Walker’s Thronkersaurus: Football’s Finest Tales, and Magic, Mud & Maradona.
When not working, Dan loves nothing more than playing golf, and for the last 5 years Dan has organised his own charity golf tournament, The Walker Cup (not that one), raising over £250,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity. Dan is proud to live in Sheffield with his wife, 3 children and his dog, Winnie.
