Dan Walker is currently the lead achor on Channel 5’s re-launched flagship news bulletin, 5 News.
A journalist and broadcaster with over twenty years’ experience, Dan was at the helm of BBC Breakfast for 6 years. He hosted the BBC’s Football Focus for twelve years and has covered five Olympic Games, five World Cups and the NFL for two seasons.
During his time at the BBC, Dan went on to cover Wimbledon, The Grand National, Royal Ascot, The Derby, and the 6 Nations. He continued to work on domestic, European and international football (including every major tournament since 2006) has co-hosted the broadcaster’s Open golf coverage for the last 10 years and was an integral part of the BBC's Olympic offering in both London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
In the summer of 2022, Dan teamed up with Michaela Strachan to host a brand-new prime time Channel 5 show, Digging for Treasure; working with teams of metal detectorists and marine archaeologists looking to unearth the hidden history treasure from all over the UK.
In the autumn of 2021 Dan joined the cast of BBC 1's most popular entertainment show Strictly Come Dancing, reaching the quarter-final much to his surprise and delight.
At the beginning of 2019 Dan was asked by Comic Relief to help raise funds by climbing Kilimanjaro with a number of other famous faces – the resulting documentary for BBC1 called Return to Kili followed the teams fund-raising journey.
In May 2019 Dan was honoured to be asked to present A Royal Team Talk: Tackling Mental Health for BBC1 with HRH The Duke of Cambridge. Together, with five A-list footballers including Gareth Southgate, Danny Rose and Peter Crouch, they gathered together for an extraordinary and honest conversation about men's mental health, the programme was incredibly well received and subsequently went on to be nominated for several awards.
In September 2018 Dan hosted his first game show for BBC 1 called Chase the Case; the 20 part series saw Dan test the gameplay, wit and intelligence of 5 contestants in this brand new quiz format.
Dan has also hosted The One Show, Songs of Praise and appeared on shows like Countdown, The Chase, Celebrity Mastermind and A Question of Sport.
Dan begun his career having turned down the opportunity to play youth team football, Dan studied journalism and worked on Sheffield student radio. He then moved to the local commercial station Hallam FM before spending four years at Manchester’s Key 103 as a presenter and commentator. Dan stayed in the city to work for Granada TV covering league football for ITV and then on to the BBC as the sports presenter on North West Tonight.
Dan is also the author of a number of books including the most recent “Standing on the Shoulders: Incredible Heroes and How They Inspire Us”, a sequel to the bestselling “Remarkable People”.
