Dave Fishwick OBE is a British entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist best known for challenging the UK's traditional banking system and inspiring the hit Netflix film, Bank of Dave. Widely recognised as "The Bank of Dave," he has become a leading voice in entrepreneurship, business and community finance, demonstrating how determination, innovation and resilience can transform industries and improve lives.

Born and raised in Burnley, Dave left school at the age of 16 with no formal qualifications and began his career working on a construction site. His entrepreneurial journey started after making a £27 profit selling a used car, which inspired him to begin trading vehicles independently. Recognising an opportunity in the market, he specialised in vans and minibuses, building what would become the UK's largest independent supplier and fitter of minibuses.

Following the 2008 financial crisis, Dave became convinced there had to be a better way to support local people and businesses through banking. Frustrated by the lack of lending from traditional banks, he set out to create a community-focused alternative based on a simple principle: offering fair returns to savers while providing affordable loans to local businesses. Despite significant regulatory challenges and widespread scepticism, he founded Burnley Savings and Loans, an independent lending company dedicated to supporting local communities. Unlike conventional financial institutions, its profits are reinvested into local charitable causes.

Dave's campaign to challenge the banking establishment attracted national attention and was documented in Channel 4's "Bank of Dave" before inspiring the globally successful Netflix film Bank of Dave, in which Rory Kinnear portrayed him. The film became one of Netflix's most-watched titles, introducing Dave's story to audiences around the world. The original documentary series has also been remastered in 4K and released internationally on Netflix.
