Dee Caffari MBE

Dee Caffari MBE is a world-record-breaking yachtswoman, adventurer, and motivational speaker who has made history multiple times on the world’s toughest oceans. A former schoolteacher turned professional sailor, Dee became the first woman to sail single-handed and non-stop around the world against the prevailing winds and currents — one of the greatest endurance feats in maritime history. She later went on to become the first woman to sail around the world solo in both directions, cementing her place as one of the most accomplished sailors of all time.

Dee’s career began when she left teaching to pursue her passion for sailing, joining the crew of the Global Challenge race in 2004. Her determination, skill, and mental strength propelled her to international recognition during her record-breaking 2005–06 voyage, when she spent 178 days alone at sea, overcoming storms, isolation, and extreme fatigue. Since then, Dee has competed in prestigious races including the Vendée Globe, the Barcelona World Race, and the Volvo Ocean Race, where she led the first mixed-gender youth team, Turn the Tide on Plastic, promoting ocean health and sustainability.

A passionate advocate for the environment and women in sport, Dee is an ambassador for several global charities and marine conservation initiatives. Her extraordinary career has earned her an MBE from Her Majesty The Queen and recognition as one of Britain’s most inspiring leaders.
