Book Feargal Sharkey — Legendary Music Industry Speaker & Environmental Advocate
Feargal Sharkey’s remarkable journey began shortly after school, when his budding career delivering televisions for Radio Rentals was interrupted by a life-changing invitation from the BBC. His band, The Undertones, was asked to perform their debut single “Teenage Kicks” live on Top of the Pops, a moment that marked the start of an extraordinary music career.
🎸 International Success and Solo Stardom
Over the next twelve years, Feargal toured globally, released multiple hit albums, and experienced the highs and lows of the road from late nights to dubious transport café cuisine across the UK. His solo career peaked with “A Good Heart,” a global chart-topping single that became a defining moment in pop music history.
🏢 Executive Leadership and Industry Transformation
In the early 1990s, Feargal transitioned into the administrative side of the music business. As A&R Manager for Polydor Records and later Managing Director of EXP Ltd, he continued shaping the future of UK music. In 2008, he became CEO of British Music Rights and transformed it into UK Music, the UK’s leading organisation representing the collective interests of the music industry.
📜 Influencing Music Policy and Legislation
Under his leadership, Feargal played a pivotal role in the introduction of key initiatives, including the Digital Economy Act, the Live Music Act, extended copyright protection for sound recordings, and the creation of the Creative Industries Council. His contribution to policy helped shape the modern landscape of music in the digital age.
