  • Co-hosts the Podcast, Political Currency
  • Speaks on Geopolitical Risk and the UK Economy

George Osborne is one of Britain’s most influential political and economic figures, recognised globally for his leadership during a defining period for the UK economy. As Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2010 to 2016, he played a central role in steering Britain through the aftermath of the global financial crisis, implementing major fiscal reforms and driving an economic recovery that outpaced many developed nations.

Before entering government, George built a rapid political career within the Conservative Party, working at the Conservative Research Department before being elected MP for Tatton in Cheshire in 2001. He quickly rose through the ranks to become Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and later Shadow Chancellor. He also managed David Cameron’s successful Conservative leadership campaign, helping shape the future direction of the party and laying the foundations for the 2010 election victory.

As Chancellor, George oversaw one of the most challenging economic periods in modern British politics. He introduced a long-term deficit reduction strategy, led comprehensive public spending reforms and established the independent Office for Budget Responsibility to strengthen economic accountability and transparency. His economic agenda focused on fiscal discipline, investment, productivity and long-term growth, with policies designed to restore market confidence and support business resilience.

Alongside his economic reforms, George championed the Northern Powerhouse initiative, a major regional growth strategy aimed at boosting investment, infrastructure, innovation and connectivity across northern England. The project remains one of the UK’s most recognised regional development programmes and continues through his work as Chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, bringing together political and business leaders to drive economic transformation outside London.

Since leaving frontline politics, George has built a portfolio career spanning finance, media, academia and cultural leadership. He is a partner at Robey Warshaw LLP, the boutique investment bank, and previously served as Editor of the Evening Standard. He also became Chair of the British Museum in 2021 and serves as a visiting professor at Stanford University.

Alongside Ed Balls, he co-hosts the popular podcast Political Currency, exploring how major political and economic decisions shape markets, governments and everyday life.

A sought-after keynote speaker, George delivers expert insight on global economics, political leadership, fiscal policy, investment strategy, geopolitical risk and the future of the UK economy. Drawing on experience at the highest levels of government and business, he offers audiences a rare behind-the-scenes perspective on decision-making during times of uncertainty and change.
