Giles Coren
- Writer, Food Critic, Columnist & Television Presenter
- After Dinner Speaker
- Awards Host
Giles Coren is a writer, food critic, columnist and television presenter. He has been a restaurant critic for The Times since 1993, and in 2005 was named 'Food And Drink Writer of the Year' at the 2005 British Press Awards. That year, his first novel, Winkler, won the Literary Review’s Bad Sex Award!, though to balance the books as it were, his 1997 ‘autobiography’ of James Dyson, Against The Odds, was a bestseller in Britain, America and Japan.
His knowledge of all thing culinary, welded to a no-holes-barred sense of humour, led perhaps not entirely surprisingly to his co-presenting the first series of The F-Word with Gordon Ramsay, followed by hosting Channel Five’s Movie Lounge in 2006. Also in 2006, he wrote and presented the controversial documentary Tax The Fat for More4. Other TV work includes co-presenting (with Olivia Judson) Channel 4’s three-part documentary series about bio-technology in the food chain, Animal Farm, and (with Sue Perkins) a six-part historical food series, The Supersizers Go. His series with Sue Perkins, Giles and Sue Live The Good Life, aired on BBC2 to rave reviews.
In 2014, Giles ventured to North America, initially making the TV show Pressure Cooker for Canada's W Network, which subsequently transferred to the US FYI Network. He followed that up with Million Dollar Critic for BBC America, which premiered on 22nd January 2015, directly after Gordon Ramsay's New Kitchen Nightmares. Back in the UK, in 2015 Giles fronted Back In Time For Dinner and Eating To Live Longer with Giles Coren (both for BBC2).
In addition to the books already mentioned, Giles has also written Anger Management for Beginners and How to Eat Out: Lessons from a Life Lived Mostly in Restaurants.
