Hannah Mills OBE

  • Double Olympic Gold Medallist
  • Sustainability Advocate
  • Leadership & Inclusion Speaker

Hannah Mills OBE is one of the most successful female sailors in Olympic history and a globally recognised advocate for sustainability, leadership and female empowerment. A double Olympic gold medallist for Team GB, Hannah inspires audiences with her experience of high-performance sport, her commitment to diversity and inclusion and her dedication to protecting the planet. Her keynote talks focus on leadership, climate action, ocean conservation, and empowering women and youth to reach their full potential.

Olympic Sailing & Competitive Achievements

Hannah won a silver medal alongside her crew Saskia Clark at the London 2012 Olympics and went on to claim gold in the same event at Rio 2016. She successfully retained her Olympic title with new partner Eilidh McIntyre at Tokyo 2021, becoming a two-time Olympic champion. These remarkable achievements make her one of the most decorated female sailors in the history of the sport and provide a platform for her motivational talks on resilience, teamwork, and goal-setting at the highest level.

Following her Olympic success, Hannah joined Sir Ben Ainslie’s GBR SailGP Team, becoming the team’s first female sailor and contributing to SailGP’s Women’s Pathway Programme, designed to promote inclusion and provide opportunities across all levels of sailing. She also led the first-ever Women’s GB team to compete in the America’s Cup in 2024, guiding them to second place overall, while simultaneously supporting the youth team entry for GB.

Sustainability & Climate Action Advocacy

Off the water, Hannah is deeply committed to environmental causes. Exposure to the global impact of plastic pollution during her Olympic campaigns ignited her passion for ocean conservation and climate action. She is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sustainability Ambassador and co-founder of Athletes of the World, a group campaigning for positive impact around climate change. In 2019, she launched the Big Plastic Pledge, a global athlete movement aimed at eliminating single-use plastics in and beyond sport. Hannah uses her network and platform to influence individuals, businesses, and governments to take meaningful action for the planet.

Awards & Recognition

Hannah’s exceptional achievements in sailing and environmental advocacy have earned her multiple prestigious awards. In 2016, she was named Female World Sailor of the Year. She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2017 for her services to sailing, and in 2021 she received the Rolex World Sailor of the Year award and was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her continued contributions to sailing and environmental protection.
