Helen Glover

Helen only took up rowing in 2008 through the Sporting Giants talent programme, and stepped into a boat for the first time. Partnered with Heather Stanning, Helen began training with the British Squad, whilst still holding down a full-time teaching position. It was in 2010 the pair first stepped on the international stage, winning a silver medal at the World Championships, behind the reigning World Champions New Zealand, a feat that they repeated in 2011, whilst also winning the Munich, and Lucerne World Cup races.

Storming to victory in the 2000m at London 2012, Helen and partner Heather won not only the first Gold medal for the host nation, but also, the first British Rowing’s first ever Female Gold Medal. The pair entered the London Olympics unbeaten throughout the World Cup series in 2012, and leading from the start stormed to a convincing victory. Cementing her title as the world’s best, Helen has remained unbeaten since the beginning of the 2012 season, despite a change of partner for 2013. Once re-united with Heather for the 2014 season, Helen broke the World Record that had been standing for 12 years, as well as winning the World and European titles. In 2015, Helen and Heather keep up their outstanding success winning the World Cup series, Helen’s fifth in five years, as well as the World Championships in France in September. The team will now enter the Rio Olympics 2016 as the reigning European, World and Olympics champions.

Helen has announced her ambition to remain undefeated all the way to defending their Olympic title in Rio this summer. A confident and eloquent speaker, Helen’s story and personable approach make her a stand out speaker at any event.
