Hugh Dennis is an actor, comedian, voice-over artist and writer, well known for his work with comedy partner Steve Punt on the long running BBC Radio 4 satirical news series The Now Show. He is also a familiar face on TV panel games, such as BBC2's topical celebrity show Mock the Week (a regular guest since 2005), QI (BBC2) and BBC1'shighly popular Have I Got News for You (both as a guest and a host).
After studying at Cambridge University - where he first met Steve Punt, as a member of the Footlights Revue - Hugh turned a talent for impressions into a career and began to provide voices for Spitting Image (ITV). He and Steve then became regular guests (as well as a writers) on Jasper Carrott's TV series Canned Carrott, and then joined the team on The Mary Whitehouse Experience, which first aired on BBC Radio 1 before transferring to television (on BBC2). Hugh then linked up again with Steve Punt for their own TV series, The Imaginatively Titled Punt and Dennis Show. The duo then went out on the road with their show Punt And Dennis - The Milky Milky Tour (1992), centred on a character called Mr Strange that Hugh had played in The Mary Whitehouse Experience. In addition to The Now Show, Hugh and Steve's radio career includes over a decade of performing in It's Been a Bad Week (BBC Radio 2) and The Party Line (BBC Radio 4).
Hugh has also starred in a number of TV sitcoms, including My Hero, in which he played obnoxious GP Piers Crispin. From 2007 to 2014, he starred in Outnumbered, a wonderfully inventive semi-improvised sitcom based around family life, which won a BAFTA nomination in the comedy category for the 2009 Christmas special.
