Comedian and actor Jack Dee is well known for his dry deadpan humour, which is highly appreciated by TV viewers through Jack's appearances on such shows as the sitcom Lead Balloon and by radio audiences through his chairing I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, described as"the antidote to panel games"!
Jack's first public appearance was at an open-mic gig in 1986 at The Comedy Store. Since the 1990s, he has performed sell-out acts at many high profile venues (including the London Palladium and the Hammersmith Apollo). Channel 4 gave him his own show - The Jack Dee Show - in 1992, which brought him to a wider audience. Jack's stand-up routines on television continued with Jack Dee's Saturday Night (ITV) in 1995, Jack Dee's Happy Hour (BBC1) in 1997 and Jack Dee Live at the Apollo (BBC1) in 2004.
Jack's acting roles on TV include playing the part of Doug Digby in the Grimleys pilot (1997) before the role was recast for the series, and made guest appearances on such programmes as Silent Witness, Dalziel and Pascoe and Jonathan Creek. More recently, he appeared as Rick Spleen in the much acclaimed BBC series Lead Balloon, which he co-wrote with Pete Sinclair.
In 1991, Jack won the British Comedy Award for Best Stage Newcomer and, following a successful run of Edinburgh shows, he was nominated for the 1991 Perrier Award. His impressive list of accolades also includes a Gold and two Silver Arrows at the 1995 British Comedy Awards, a British Advertising Award for the John Smith's Bitter commercials (1997), and the prestigious Best Stand Up Comedian at the 1997 British Comedy Awards. He was also nominated for a BAFTA in 2006for Jack Dee: Live at the Apollo, which he hosted. Jack also won Celebrity Big Brother in 2001.
