James Nesbitt is an Irish actor and presenter, best known for his role in the popular television series Cold Feet, which won him a British Comedy Award, a Television and Radio Industries Club Award and a National Television Award. Prior to this, James starred as undercover detective Tommy Murphy in Murphy's Law, a role which twice gained him Best Actor nominations at the Irish Film & Television Awards.
After graduating from the Central School Of Speech And Drama in London, James spent his early acting years performing in a number of plays, including the musical Up On The Roof (1987 to 1989) and the political drama Paddywack (1994). He made his feature film debut playing talent agent Fintan O'Donnell in the 1991 film Hear My Song.
Other film and TV work includes Bloody Sunday, Lucky Break, The Canterbury Tales, Wall Of Silence, Steven Moffat's Jekyll, Midnight Man, Waking Ned, Occupation, Five Minutes Of Heaven, Outcast, The Way and The Missing. James also played neurosurgeon Gabriel Monroe in the acclaimed ITV medical drama series Monroe. More recently, he portrayed Bofur in Peter Jackson's three-part film adaptation of The Hobbit.
As a film awards presenter, James hosted the IFTA Awards ceremony for three consecutive years between 2005 and 2007, the Laurence Olivier Awards in 2009 and the British Independent Film Awards from 2005 to 2010.
