After studying architecture, Janet began her journalism journey in her early twenties as a fashion editor and columnist for the Daily Mail. Her innovative approach led to acclaimed productions such as Saturday Night People and Twentieth Century Box.
In 1987, Janet joined Channel 4 as editor of the pioneering youth television show Network 7, which won a BAFTA for originality and set the stage for future edgy, youth-focused programming like The Word and The Big Breakfast. She later brought her creative vision to the BBC, spearheading the iconic DEF II strand, which introduced UK audiences to beloved shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Rapido. Her leadership eventually led to a senior role overseeing Independent Production in Entertainment at the BBC.
