Jas Hawker

Jas Hawker is a former Fighter Pilot and a Leader of the RAF's Red Arrows, the world famous aerobatics display team.

He joined the Royal Air Force aged 18 and went on to be the youngest ever pilot to fly the Tornado ground attack aircraft on the front-line, becoming qualified to lead any scale of combat mission in any part of the world. In total, Jas served with four operational squadrons, taking part in both training and operational deployments all over the world.

Jas joined the Red Arrows in 1999 for three years, and in 2007 was selected to become their Commanding Officer and Team Leader. In this role, Jas was responsible for all aspects of Red Arrows' operations, including risk and safety management. He led the aerobatics team on overseas tours to the USA, Middle and Far East and performed over 500 public displays with them. In 2010, he concluded his highly successful three-year tour of duty as Commanding Officer and was succeeded by the 2009 Squadron Leader Ben Murphy.

Since then, Jas has undertaken a number of non-flying appointments within the Ministry of Defence, advising senior military officers and civil servants on strategic policy and planning issues. He has practical experience of operational-level campaign planning, having been deployed to Afghanistan as a Senior Air Advisor. He also consults to global corporations.

Having commanded jet aircraft in both combat missions and as leader of the Red Arrows, Jas has personal experience of world-class high performance teams, of executing cross-functional projects in large complex organisations, and of balancing the tension between risk, safety and performance outcomes.
