Jill Scott MBE is a celebrated former England Lioness, born in Tyne and Wear, who enjoyed a remarkable 16-year career at international level. At just 13, Jill chose football over athletics, a decision that shaped her sporting legacy.
📚 Early Career and Education
After completing school in 2003, Jill Scott MBE pursued a Sport and Exercise Science diploma at Gateshead College, where she showcased her talent playing for the college football team, she then advanced to Loughborough University to continue her studies in sport while simultaneously launching her senior football career with Sunderland Women.
🏆 Professional Achievements
In October 2005, at just 18 years old, Jill earned the Women's Player of the Month award for her standout performances at both club and international Under-19 level and went on to join Everton Women in 2006, where she was named FA Tesco Players’ Player of the Year during the 2007–08 season, contributed to victories in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup and FA Women’s Cup, then made a high-profile move to Manchester City in 2013 playing a key role in their 2014 Continental Cup triumph and later extended her contract in 2020, embracing coaching responsibilities while enjoying loan spells with both Everton and Aston Villa.
🏴 International Glory
Jill received her first senior England call-up in May 2006 after captaining the Under-19 squad, quickly establishing herself as a key player by competing in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup and playing a decisive role at the 2009 UEFA Women’s European Championships, where she scored the winning goal in the semi-final against the Netherlands. In that same year, she became one of the FA’s inaugural 17 centrally contracted female players, cementing her status as a foundational figure in the national team.

Honoured with an MBE in 2020, Jill was recognised for her outstanding contributions to women’s football, capping off a storied career defined by dedication, influence and sporting excellence. In 2022, Jill played a key role in guiding England to victory at the UEFA Women’s Euro, then captured the hearts of the public with her triumph on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, where she was crowned Queen of the Jungle.

Maintaining a dynamic presence post-retirement, Jill continues to shine as a sports pundit for ITV Sport and is a team captain on the Sky TV show, A League of Their Own. She joined the panel alongside Jamie Redknapp, Romesh Ranganathan and Micah Richards, bringing her Lioness legacy and sharp wit to the blue team.
