Johnny Herbert
Johnny Herbert
- Former Formula 1 and Le Mans Racing Driver
- TV Pundit and Commentator
- After Dinner and Motivational Speaker
Not only is Johnny Herbert one of the most cheerful characters in motor sport, he's also one of the most knowledgeable - these same characteristics also make him a highly entertaining After-dinner and Sports Day Speaker, as well as an equally accomplished Presenter.
During the mid-1980s, Johnny was widely regarded as a coming man of motor racing, likened by some to the Scot Jim Clark. Winning the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch in 1985, he caught Eddie Jordan's attention, and with Jordan's backing won the 1987 British Formula Three title. A major set-back struck in 1988, though, when Johnny, then a championship hopeful in International Formula 3000, was caught up in a major accident at Brands Hatch, breaking his legs as a result. But neither Johnny's spirit nor his goals were diminished, and after his recovery he went on to drive for Formula One teams such as Tyrell, Lotus, Ligier and Stewart Racing, winning the British Grand Prix and Monza in 1995 and the European in 1999. In total, he raced for Formula One teams an impressive 12 years.
After retiring from Grand Prix racing, Johnny concentrated on Sports Cars. He won several events at the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), and was a challenger for the 2003 crown. In 2008 he won the first season of the Speedcar Series and the following year he made his debut in the British Touring Car Championship for Team Dynamics.
These days, Johnny is often seen in front of the TV cameras. He is a regular contributor on the Sky Sports F1 HD channel, offering post-race analysis and appearing on the channel's dedicated Formula One show. In 2013 / 2014, he mentored six contestants in GT Academy, a prime-time ITV4 reality series that took players of the Gran Turismo videogames to the Dubai 24 Hour race as real drivers.
Johnny makes an excellent Awards Host, Presenter and Guest Speaker, especially for Sports-themed events. To book him, contact Prime Performers via the online booking enquiry form or alternatively call 020 3500 3331 for further information.
