Jon Snow

Best known as the long-running main anchor of Channel 4 News, Jon Snow has been largely responsible for the show gaining the high esteem in which it has long been held.

Channel 4 News is among the highest-rated television programmes in the UK, and has won a record number of Royal Television Society (RTA) Television Awards, including TV Journalist of the Year for Jon (2006). Amongst several other awards garnered during his career, Jon also gained the prestigious Richard Dimbleby Award at the 2005 BAFTA Television Awards, and was presented with the RTS Award for Best Male Presenter in 1985.

Jon served as ITN's Washington correspondent from 1983 to 1986 and as diplomatic editor in 1986, before becoming the main presenter of Channel 4 News in 1989, a post he has held ever since. In addition, in 1992 he was the main anchor for ITN's election night programme, presenting alongside Robin Day, Alastair Stewart and Julia Somerville.

As well as iconic news programmes, Jon has also hosted a wide range of discussion programmes and high-profile documentaries for Channel 4, including War On Terror Trial, Bloody Sunday Debate, Snow In Japan, The Emillionaire Show and Secrets Of The Honours System.

In 2011, Jon presented the multiple award-winning investigative documentary Sri Lanka's Killing Fields, which documented war crimes committed in the final days of the Sri Lankan conflict in 2009. More recently, in 2014 Jon conducted a controversial and heated debate with comedian and actor Russell Brandas part of a Channel 4 programme about Brand's petition for UK drug law reform.

On 29 August 2012, Jon carried the Paralympic Torch in the relay prior to the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Jon's autobiography Shooting History was published in 2004. It details his life from childhood up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
