Jonathan Edwards CBE
Jonathan Edwards CBE
- Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European Champion Triple Jumper
- Sports Commentator and Broadcaster
- Keynote Speaker and Awards Host
Jonathan Edwards' extraordinary achievements as a triple jumper have earned him a place in history and in the record books - in 1995, he broke the World Record at the World Championships in Gothenburg with an amazing jump of 18.29 m in the second round; to date no one has even come close to this distance. Small wonder that later the same year, Jonathan became the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
He won silver at the 1996 Olympic Games after a leap of 17.88 m, which was the longest ever jump not to win gold. He won the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games, and was honoured with a CBE shortly afterwards. He also won gold medals at the 2001 World Championships and 2002 Commonwealth Games. At one point in 2002, he held all the gold medals for the "four majors" (Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships). He retired after the 2003 World Championships as Great Britain's most successful medal winning athlete.
Since retiring from the athletics track, Jonathan has established himself as one of the country's key sports presenters, covering a wide range of sports, mainly for the BBC. Major events that Jonathan has covered include all the recent Olympic Games - Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012 and the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, as well as the London 2012 Paralympic Games. In 2013, he joined the BBC’s team as the presenter for their cycling coverage.
Jonathan was selected to sit on the board of the London Organising Committee of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) as their athlete representative – the highest-profile ex-athlete in a senior position outside of the Chairman.
As an experienced broadcaster, Jonathan has a particular ability for Facilitating and Hosting Conferences and Awards Ceremonies (for both business and sports events).
