Mark Millar

Mark, originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, grew up during the Troubles. Initially aspiring to be a chef, he switched paths and pursued an apprenticeship in carpentry. After four years, Mark moved to London and eventually settled in Bristol, where he established a highly successful building firm. His company boasts numerous celebrity clients and has completed projects across the US and Europe.

In 1999, Mark was invited to present the first series of BBC’s home improvement show, DIY SOS. Due to prior commitments, he declined. Six years later, he accepted the role of Project Manager for the series, both on and off-camera. DIY SOS became a hit, earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Features Programme. Mark’s contributions extended beyond practical advice; he played a crucial role in editorial and production decisions, visiting every site and influencing the stories featured on the show.

Building on his success with DIY SOS, Mark became the presenter of Channel 5’s home makeover show, Dream Kitchens and Bathrooms with Mark Millar, in 2021. The show features Mark guiding homeowners through transformations of their kitchens and bathrooms, bringing his humour, expertise, and hands-on approach to each project.

In 2023, Mark took on a new challenge as the presenter of Channel 5’s Build Your Dream Home in the Country. The show follows Mark as he travels across the UK, assisting people in building their dream homes in the countryside. His extensive experience as a project manager allows him to provide valuable support and guidance throughout the building process.

Mark is a well-known figure on UK television, having appeared on shows like Children in Need and Pointless Celebrities. He is also a frequent guest on radio programs as a DIY expert. In September 2020, Mark undertook a significant project with DIY SOS and Children in Need, building the first-ever surf school adapted for people with disabilities in Swansea in just 11 days.

Outside of work, Mark is passionate about the outdoors. A former all-Irish diving champion, he now enjoys wild swimming, kayaking, camping, and exploring nature. Mark has kayaked some of the world’s most dangerous rivers and has a keen interest in motorbikes and cooking with local British produce.
