Owain found national and international fame in 2020 when a video of him drumming along to the BBC News theme tune went viral. It was viewed 6 million times online and made its way into several newspapers, from India to Australia. This was the platform for his incredible record-breaking 24-hour drumathon for Children in Need, which has so far raised an astonishing £3.8m and counting.
Owain is a regular reporter for The One Show, weather presenter on BBC Breakfast and deputy on Radio 2. On New Year’s Day 2022 he hosted the UK’s biggest radio show when he sat in for Dermot O’Leary on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show!
Owain’s warmth and humour have been put to good effect as a guest on numerous shows, including The Wheel, Pointless Celebrities, Celebrity Mastermind, Peter Crouch’s Year Late Euros, Strictly: It Takes Two, Freeze The Fear and alongside Paddy McGuinness for BBC One’s The Big New Year In.
Owain is also a friend of Drag Race UK, fronting live events with the Queens.
In 2022 Owain returned to S4C – where his career started – to front his own chat show, Siop Siarad Owain (Owain’s Talking Shop) and later hosted Wales Home of the Year for BBC Wales.
Owain is a proud member and huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, and is regularly seen hosting pride events across the UK. In 2018, he produced a series of clips for Netflix alongside Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown for the UK Pride Season and is an ambassador for the LGBT Foundation.
Owain spreads awareness and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community. Receiving homophobic abuse via Twitter due to his presenting style, Owain knows first-hand what it is like to fall victim to abuse, allowing him to deliver an authentic, passionate and moving speech as an LGBTQ+ speaker. Believing that his family would disown him if he revealed his sexuality, Owain has been met with nothing but support since coming out, and wants to ensure that other people feel confident and supported when making the decision to come out.
