Professor Sue Black OBE is one of the UK’s most inspiring technology leaders, a computer scientist, campaigner and social entrepreneur who has spent her career proving that tech can transform lives. Her story is as remarkable as her impact: leaving school at sixteen and raising three children as a single mother, Sue returned to education, earned a PhD in computer science, and went on to become a Professor of Computer Science and Technology Evangelist at Durham University.
Sue has dedicated her career to making technology accessible, inclusive, and empowering for everyone. She founded BCSWomen, the UK’s first online network for women in computing, and later created TechMums, a social enterprise teaching digital skills to mothers helping them build confidence, careers, and brighter futures through technology.
Her successful campaign to save Bletchley Park, the historic home of WWII codebreakers, showed the power of digital activism and earned her national recognition. In 2016, she was awarded an OBE for Services to Technology, acknowledging her extraordinary contributions to women in STEM and to public understanding of computing.
