Ricky Tomlinson is one of Britain's most sought after actors, with a large body of work in both TV and film. Perhaps best known for his TV roles as Bobby Grant in Brookside and especially Jim Royle in The Royle Family, Ricky is a highly versatile actor and has provided performances that are both moving and hilarious, often both at the same time!
Ricky appeared as Bobby Grant in Brookside from show's inception in 1982 until being written out in 1988. He subsequently played the part of DCI Charlie Wise in Cracker, before becoming the hugely popular character Jim Royle in the BBC sitcom The Royle Family.

Ricky has also fronted a number of TV adverts, including those for the utility company British Gas and the frozen food chain Farmfoods
Ricky's autobiography, entitled, appropriately enough, Ricky, was published in 2003 and spent five weeks at the top of the UK best-selling new books chart. In the book, Tomlinson admitted to having affairs, as well as describing in detail his time in prison; it is a extraordinary, moving and inspiring story.
Ricky is a long-time member of the Socialist Labour Party, having been involved in politics since the early 1970s.
