Roger Black

Roger Black is one of the UK’s most successful sportsmen, having represented Great Britain for 14 years at the highest level, both as an individual 400 metre runner and as a member of the 4x400 metre relay team. Nowadays, he is seen regularly on our TV screens as a sports presenter, and is also one of the busiest speakers on the corporate circuit, delivering motivational talks, after dinner speeches, and hosting award ceremonies and conferences.

Roger was awarded the MBE after winning Olympic Gold for the team 4x4 relay in 1991. He went on to win the Olympic 400 metre Silver medal in 1996, subsequently becoming an Ambassador for Team GB in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. As well as being an outstanding sportsman, he is also admired for his triumphs over adversity, successfully overcoming several serious injuries and setbacks throughout his career.

Since retiring from the sports field in 1998, Roger has presented the Olympics, the World Athletics Championships, the Commonwealth Games, the European Championships and the World Championships, as well as sports features within news programmes (all for BBC TV). He has also appeared regularly as a guest on numerous prime-time TV programmes, including A Question of Sport, They Think It’s All Over and Strictly Come Dancing. He co-presented the last series of Tomorrow's World and BBC’s award winning City Hospital.

In 2008, Roger joined forces with fellow athlete Steve Backley to establish BackleyBlack LLP, which seeks to increase and sustain performance in the workplace through training and development.
