From winning medals as an Olympian-class swimmer to becoming a popular television presenter, Sharron Davies has always strived for - and gained - the highest levels of success. Yet despite the many triumphs she has also known adversity in both her personal life and sporting career, but has learned how to overcome these obstacles to attain her goals.
Sharron first represented Great Britain as a swimmer at just 11 years old, was an Olympian at 13 and has lived her life in the public eye ever since. An extraordinary swimming career saw medals in all major championships. As a 15-year-old she was a double Commonwealth Gold Medallist and her famous Olympic Silver Medal was achieved only behind a proven steroid-assisted East German. By the time she finally hung up her swimsuit for good in 1994, she had been a British champion on twenty occasions and had broken two hundred British swimming records and five World Masters records.
A subsequent high profile media career has spanned over 25 years, and she is in continuous demand for TV work, radio broadcasts, newspaper and magazine interviews, photo shoots and personal appearances. Her TV work has encompassed children's programmes, breakfast TV (including a period presenting Channel 4's Big Breakfast), appearances on programmes as varied as The Gadget Show and French & Saunders, fronting shows such as Superstars, performing as Amazon in Gladiators, as well as carrying out Olympic Games presenting duties for the BBC (six so far). Sharron has also regularly featured as a guest on the likes of AQuestion of Sport and They Think It's All Over.
In addition, Sharron has published a number of health and fitness videos and co-authored books on the same topic. Significant charity commitments have also played a major part in her busy life; she is a current patron of Disabled Sport England and the Sports Aid Foundation, and is also the face of the Swim for Life charity event.
Sharron is one of the UK's best-loved sporting personalities and is an ideal choice for After-dinner Speaking, Awards Hosting and Personal Appearances. Sharron was exceptional. She arrived in good time and showed a real interest in the Academy. When we took her across to the PE department she interacted very well with the students and was more than happy to talk to the press and have photos taken. In addition to this she signed autographs and responded to all the students questions. At the presentation evening she gave a really interesting speech which appealed to all ages and was inspirational to the students.
