Spencer Kelly is a respected broadcaster and journalist with more than twenty years experience in radio and television. He presents the BBC’s flagship technology programme Click, shown in over 200 countries on BBC World News, and is also a regular guest on BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon.
Spencer graduated from Cambridge University with a double first in Computer Science, and is also an Honorary Doctor of Technology at Coventry University. He began his career reporting on traffic problems from a light aircraft! As a result, he has many dull theories on traffic behaviour (really, but don't ask him!).
Spencer joined the BBC in January 2003 as one of five iPresenters (interactive presenters). The team pioneered new forms of interactive broadcasting, using the web, digital television and digital radio. This included interactive LiveChats (live interviews with celebrities, streamed across the web), in which the audience had the opportunity to ask live questions to the guests. He also began reporting for BBC World's Click Online show for two and a half years and appeared on Channel Five's The Gadget Show. He became the presenter of the renamed Click series in January 2006, taking over from Stephen Cole.
Spencer has reported from countries across the globe on a range of technology issues - from crazy walking robots in South Korea to the life-changing impact of just one computer on an Indian village. He has tested satellite broadband in the scorching Namib desert, and been turned into an alien in the studios of Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco.
Spencer has also pursued some controversial investigations, including exposing security loopholes in Facebook, and giving the first television demonstration of a botnet - showing the power available to hackers who take control of a network of infected PCs.
