Steph McGovern is an award-winning business journalist, broadcaster and presenter with a rare ability to make complex economic issues accessible, engaging and relevant. With more than 20 years’ experience in financial journalism, Steph brings unrivalled insight into the world of business, the economy and entrepreneurship, alongside the warmth, wit and straight-talking style that have made her a much-loved television personality.

Steph co-hosts The Rest Is Money with Robert Peston, exploring the economic forces shaping our everyday lives and interviewing leading figures from business and politics. She is also an accomplished event host and interviewer, equally at home challenging senior business leaders, drawing out compelling personal stories or bringing energy and humour to a live audience.

During eight years on BBC Breakfast, Steph travelled across the UK, broadcasting live from more than 500 businesses and meeting everyone from factory workers to FTSE 100 CEOs. Her mission was always to get beneath the headlines and explain what was really happening in the economy. She continued this approach on her own Channel 4 lunchtime show, Steph’s Packed Lunch, which featured regular segments championing small businesses, careers and employment.

Her extensive presenting credits include Shop Well for Less, Watchdog, Crimewatch, Easy Ways to Live Well and The Big Deal. She also created and presented Pocket Money Pitch, a CBBC series encouraging young entrepreneurs, and appeared on Made in Great Britain, celebrating the people, skills and industries that have helped shape the nation. A familiar face on comedy and entertainment programmes, Steph has appeared on Have I Got News for You, The Last Leg, Countdown and House of Games, showcasing her versatility, quick wit and natural rapport with guests and audiences.

Before stepping in front of the camera, Steph was the BBC’s lead producer of financial news, working alongside then Business Editor Robert Peston during the broadcaster’s award-winning coverage of the credit crunch and banking crisis. She went on to report for BBC Radio 5 Live, Radio 4 and Radio 2 before joining BBC Breakfast as a full-time correspondent.

Steph’s passion for business and innovation is rooted in her own experience. Originally from Middlesbrough, she began her career as an apprentice engineer at Black & Decker and, aged just 19, was named Young Engineer for Britain. She later studied at University College London and has retained a strong commitment to British manufacturing, skills development and the next generation of talent.

Beyond broadcasting, Steph has a number of business interests and is actively involved in community and education initiatives. She mentors young people in Teesside, runs workshops for schoolchildren across the North East and is a patron of the charity Rubies, which supports disadvantaged children. A former Irish dancing champion, she is also the author of her debut novel, Deadline.
