Stephanie was the BBC's Economics Editor from April 2008 to November 2013 and has also presented a BBC2 series, Masters of Money, and her own Radio 4 programme, Stephanomics. She joined the BBC as Newsnight's Economics Editor in October 2002.
Flanders is a former speechwriter and senior advisor to US Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers in the Clinton Administration, where she was involved in the management of emerging market crises and other major economic issues from 1997 to 2001. She has also worked as a reporter for the New York Times, and as principal editor of the UN's 2002 Human Development Report.
Before heading off to the US, she was an editorial-writer and economics columnist at the FT, and an economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and London Business School. She was educated at Balliol College, Oxford and Harvard University.
Her blog, Stephanomics, won the 2010 Harold Wincott Foundation's Award for online journalism. She was also its Broadcaster of the Year for 2011 and the Political Studies' Association's Broadcaster of the Year for 2012. She was elected to the governing council of the Royal Economic Society in 2007 and became a visiting fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford in 2008.
