Stephen Mangan is a highly acclaimed actor, he has played a wide range of roles, from Norman in The Norman Conquests on the Broadway stage (for which he received a Tony nomination) to Postman Pat in Postman Pat: The Movie! On TV, he has tended to specialise in comedy roles, portraying Guy Secretan in the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 sitcom Green Wing and Dan Moody in I'm Alan Partridge.
Stephen graudated from Cambridge University before moving on to RADA, he began his career performing in plays by Shakespeare, Shaw, Coward, Benn and Goldsmith (among others) throughout the UK. Though he still devotes time to stage roles, since playing Doctor Crane in the hugely popular film Billy Elliot and landing the role of Adrian Mole in the BBC1 series Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years, Stephen has concentrated more heavily on screen and TV work.
Stephen’s film roles, aside from Billy Elliott, include French cabaret singer Pierre Dupont in the cult film Chunky Monkey alongside David Threlfall and Alison Steadman, and the Bank Manager in Birthday Girl, starring Nicole Kidman and Vincent Cassel. Stephen also stars in Beyond the Pole, a 2010 British 'mockumentary' adapted from the cult BBC radio series of the same name, and played the title role in the Comic Strip film The Hunt For Tony Blair. More recently, Stephen appeared in Rush, a feature movie directed by Ron Howard.
Stephens TV work as well as Green Wing and I'm Alan Partridge, includes Dirk Gently (playing the title role), Nathan Barley, Free Agents, Never Better, Lucky Jim, Jane Hall, The Armando Iannucci Show and Ready When You Are Mr McGill.
Stephen was the host of the Evening Standard British Film Awards for four years running (2009-2013), and in 2014 he returned to host the British Academy Television Craft Awards in London for a third time.
