Steve Davis OBE

Steve Davis OBE is widely regarded as one of the greatest snooker players of all time and  dominated the sport throughout the 1980s, becoming one of Britain's most recognisable sporting figures. During an extraordinary period of success, he reached eight World Championship finals in nine years, won six World Championship titles and held the world number one ranking for seven consecutive seasons.

Steve's rivalry with Dennis Taylor produced one of the most iconic moments in sporting history. Their dramatic 1985 World Championship final, decided on the final black ball, remains the most famous match ever played in snooker and attracted a record 18.5 million UK television viewers after midnight.

Over the course of his illustrious career, Steve won 28 ranking titles placing him among the most successful players in the history of the sport. He also secured 15 Triple Crown titles including six UK Championships, three Masters titles and six World Championships, ranking behind only Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stephen Hendry. In the 1987–88 season, he became the first player ever to win all three Triple Crown events in a single season, a feat achieved by only two other players since.

A true pioneer of the game, Steve compiled 355 competitive century breaks and recorded the first officially recognised maximum 147 break in professional competition at the 1982 Classic. His achievements were recognised beyond snooker when he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1988, making him the only snooker player to have received the prestigious award.

Since retiring from professional competition, Steve has remained a familiar face on television as a respected BBC snooker commentator and analyst. He is also a popular television personality, appearing regularly on quiz and entertainment programmes.

Away from the baize, Steve has developed an unexpected reputation as a DJ, performing under the names Thundermuscle and Rocky Flame, delighting audiences with his eclectic sets and trademark sense of humour.
