Tim Collins is a former British Army Officer renowned for his brilliant motivational speeches, combining witty anecdotes drawing on his own experiences with unique insights into teamwork and leadership. After serving in Germany, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar and Northern Ireland, Tim passed selection into the Special Air Service (the SAS) and went on to serve two operational tours with the SAS as a Troop Commander and Operations Officer.
Tim was appointed Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment in 2001, and earned the nickname 'Nails' among his men. For a tour of duty in Northern Ireland between October 2001 and March 2002, he was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service. But it was his address to the regiment on the eve of the Iraqi invasion of 2003 that really caught the headlines: his speech was an inspiration to world leaders and infantrymen alike and marked him out as a thinker as well as a commander of men.
Since his retirement from the British Army in 2004, Tim has written a best selling memoir Rules of Engagement and built a successful career in the media as a military expert and television presenter. He fronted Tiger Aspect’s documentary on the British Army entitled Be The Bestand BBC Northern Ireland's Desert Generals, and was the focus of an edition of Fiona Bruce’s Real Story on BBC 1. Through his eyes, we are given a frank and compelling insight into the realities of warfare on the ground and in the air.
