Tony Blackburn

Tony Blackburn is one of the best known radio DJs in Britain, as admired and respected today as he was when taking the helm at pirate radio station Radio Caroline in the mid-1960s and as a mainstay presenter of Radio One in the late 1960s and 1970s. He was the first disc jockey to broadcast on BBC Radio 1 at its launch in 1967 and stayed with the station for over 17 years.

On TV, he is best remembered as one of the regular presenters of BBC's world-famous Top Of The Pops. Tony continues to make guest appearances on a wide range of television shows and was the winner of I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here (ITV) in 2002.

In November 2010 he took over the reins on Radio 2’s legendary programme ‘Pick of the Pops’ following its two previous long-serving hosts, Alan Freeman and Dale Winton. Alongside POTP, Tony was the regular host of New Year’s Eve on Radio 2 as well as dozens of Bank Holiday specials.
He also returned to BBC Radio London to present a Sunday afternoon soul show and also presents a Friday morning show on BBC Berkshire.

In 2017 he took over the presenting duties on Sounds of the Sixties on Radio 2 – one of the networks highest rated shows. In addition, also on R2, he presents “Tony Blackburn’s Golden Hour” live on Friday nights at 7pm. In 2018, Tony teamed up with Live Nation to take Sounds of the Sixties on tour. It has been playing to packed houses up and down the country and dates are already booked in until the end of 2020.

He can also be heard on Sunday afternoons on his regular KMFM show on a Sunday across Kent in a show sponsored by P&O Ferries who is has a long term relationship with.

Tony is a legend of the airwaves and has become a household name through his DJ-ing, TV Shows, and he inspired the cult of the radio DJ. His passion for Soul music has been the main underlying factor in most of his shows.
