- Financial Markets Expert & Macro-Economic Speaker
Trevor Williams is a former Chief Economist at Lloyds Bank, where he spent over a decade analysing macroeconomic trends, financial markets and the forces shaping global and UK economic performance. Today, he is an author, academic and consultant, widely respected for his ability to translate complex economic data into clear, practical insight for businesses, policymakers and investors.
With more than 30 years’ experience in economics and financial analysis, Trevor’s career has spanned the civil service, equity markets, foreign exchange and economic forecasting. His expertise lies in interpreting how politics, trade, demographics and policy decisions influence economic cycles, inflation, growth and market behaviour.
Trevor is known for bringing clarity to complex and fast-moving economic issues, from interest rates and earnings to global trade and stock market volatility. He explores both short-term disruption and long-term structural change, helping audiences understand what economic data is really saying and how it should inform decision-making.
A key area of focus in his work is the political economy of climate change and energy. Trevor examines the economic risks associated with environmental transition, energy security, and policy decisions affecting consumers, businesses, insurers and investors. He also analyses how energy markets respond to geopolitical pressure and supply constraints.
He is Chair of the Shadow Monetary Policy Committee at the Institute of Economic Affairs, where he closely tracks the Bank of England’s monetary policy decisions, including interest rates, quantitative easing and broader financial strategy. He also advises organisations on how to use data analytics and internal datasets to gain deeper insights into economic conditions and business performance.
Trevor is Visiting Professor at the University of Derby and co-author of Trading Economics, a practical guide to understanding the indicators and statistics that drive market behaviour. He also writes regularly on financial and economic issues, including a column in Moneyfacts and commentary on his personal blog.
As a keynote speaker, Trevor delivers insightful talks on inflation, economic outlooks, global markets, monetary policy, energy economics, climate risk and data-driven decision-making. He is valued for his ability to make technical economic concepts accessible, relevant and directly applicable to business strategy.
