Victoria Coren Mitchell is a renowned television presenter, radio host, writer, and professional poker player. She is best known for presenting BBC Two’s highest-rated show, Only Connect, and hosting the Radio 4 comedy series Women Talking About Cars and Heresy, which she also produces. Victoria writes a weekly TV column for The Daily Telegraph and holds the unique distinction of being the only person to have won two titles on the European Poker Tour.
Victoria's writing career began at the age of 14 when she submitted a short story to Just Seventeen magazine under an assumed name. The story was accepted and published, earning her £90. This early success led her to answer a nationwide appeal from The Daily Telegraph for a teenage columnist. Her audition column about the terrors of the countryside for an urban child won her the job, and she wrote for them weekly for four years.
After university, Victoria became a freelance journalist and broadcaster. In 1999, she adapted John Diamond's newspaper columns into a play titled A Lump In My Throat, which was performed in various theatres in London and Edinburgh before being re-adapted into a TV play for BBC2.
Victoria is also a professional poker player, having won the London EPT in 2006 and the San Remo EPT in 2014.
As a broadcaster, Victoria has presented several shows for Radio 4, including Fourth Column and Off The Page, as well as two series of Balderdash And Piffle for BBC2. She has also presented numerous poker-related shows such as Late Night Poker, The Poker Nations Cup, and provided commentary for various poker tours.
Victoria has appeared as a guest on popular shows like Question Time, Have I Got News For You, QI, Eight Out Of Ten Cats, and many more.
In 2002, Victoria co-wrote a book titled Once More With Feeling with her best friend Charlie Skelton. In 2008, she co-edited an anthology of her father’s writing with her brother Giles, titled Chocolate And Cuckoo Clocks. Her memoir about life playing cards, For Richer, For Poorer: A Love Affair With Poker, was published in 2009 and re-published in paperback in 2011.
